Jim Overton, Duval County Tax Collector

Jim Overton was elected Duval County Tax Collector in a special election in November 2018.  He was re-elected in 2019 and 2023.  He is designated a Certified Florida Tax Collector by the Florida Department of Revenue for having completed optional coursework and continuing education as Tax Collector.  He previously served three terms as the Duval County Property Appraiser and two terms on the Jacksonville City Council, including a year as Council President.

Prior to public service, Overton was a business owner in electronics distribution and television production. He holds a degree in Business Administration from Washington and Lee University and a Master’s in Public Administration from the University of North Florida, both with honors.
 
Overton is married and has two children and two grandkids.  His current civic affiliations include the Executive Board of the North Florida Council of Boy Scouts, the Rotary Club of Jacksonville, the North Florida Land Trust, YMCA Facilities Board, and Troop 2 BSA.  He is an avid outdoorsman, and an instrument rated private and glider pilot.
