Driver's License Road Test

Everything you need to know before taking your Class E Driving Skills Test at a Duval County Tax Collector branch.

 Planning to take your Florida driver’s license road test? Here’s what you need to know before you arrive, including where road tests are offered, what to bring, vehicle requirements and how to prepare for the test.

 Road Tests Are Walk-In Only

No appointment is required for a road test. Road tests are offered on a walk-in basis at select Duval County Tax Collector locations.

Because road tests are walk-in only, availability may vary throughout the day. Road tests will be suspended in the event of severe weather.

Where Are Road Tests Offered?

Class E Driving Skills Tests are currently offered at:

  • Soutel – 4750 Soutel Drive
  • Westside – 8299-10 W. Beaver Street
  • Roosevelt – 6331 Roosevelt Blvd Suite 10
  • St Johns Square – 11160 Beach Blvd Suite 121
  • Mandarin – 10035 San Jose Blvd.
  • Neptune Beach – 1505 Atlantic Blvd.

 When Are Road Tests Offered?

  • Tuesday – Thursday
  • 8:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
  • Road tests are not offered on Mondays or Fridays

What Should I Bring?

Before coming for your road test, make sure you have:

  • Your valid learner's license/permit or other required credential. Learn more about document requirements: https://www.flhsmv.gov/driver-licenses-id-cards/what-to-bring/
  • You need to bring your own vehicle, and it must meet the following criteria:
    • Valid license plate
    • Current vehicle registration
    • Proof of valid Florida insurance
    • Operable seatbelts (exceptions: cars made before 1968, trucks made before 1972)
    • Pass a vehicle safety inspection
  • The examiner will not administer if the vehicle fails the safety inspection. The vehicle will fail the inspection if any of the following apply:
    • The horn, rear-view mirror, directional signals, steering wheel, brakes, tires, brake lights or tail lights are defective or inoperable.
    • There are no windshield wipers on the driver's side.
    • There are no operable headlights when visibility is reduced.
    • There is cracked or broken glass that hinders visibility.
    • The tag is expired.
    • The vehicle doesn't have doors.
    • The front doors don't open from both the inside and outside.
    • The vehicle doesn't allow the driver to give hand signals if directional signals are not working.
    • The vehicle is not clean (we reserve the right not to administer a driving test).
    • Emergency brake does not work.
    • Tires are worn and in poor condition.
